People ready to celebrate 'Pahela Baishakh' in Rangpur

People of all ages are ready to celebrate 'Pahela Baishakh', the first day of the Bengali New Year, tomorrow everywhere in Rangpur division amid huge enthusiasm, fanfare and traditional festivities.
The district towns as well as divisional city of Rangpur have worn festive looks on the occasion. The authorities concerned have taken tight security measures to celebrate the traditional 'Pahela Baishakh' festivities in a peaceful atmosphere.
The district and upazila administrations, authorities of different
pourashavas, Rangpur City Corporation and other concerned organisations have completed all necessary preparations to welcome 'Pahela Baishakh.'
Different government, non-government, socio-cultural, professional, business and other organisations, NGOs, private bodies and educational institutions have also completed preparations to celebrate the auspicious occasion.
In Rangpur city, the celebration will begin at 7:30 am through traditional 'Baishakhi' programmes of Shishu Academy and Shilpakola Academy on Banyan Tree premises in Zila School and 'Sommilito Sangskriti Jyote' on Central Shaheed Minar premises.
Later, the district administration in association with other organisations will bring out the main 'Baishakhi' procession in the city streets from Zila School ground at 9 am to welcome the Bengali New Year 1423.
Tens of hundreds of people of all ages will take part in the procession carrying colourful festoons, placards and banners and singing Baishakhi songs, 'Polli Geeti', 'Jarigan', 'Bhatiali', 'Baul', 'Lalon Geeti', 'Nazrul Geeti' and 'Rabindra Sangeet' and folk songs.
City Mayor Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General of Police Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar, Zila Parishad Administrator Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, will take part in the procession, among others.
Meanwhile, the celebration of 'Chaitra Sangkranti', the last day of the outgoing year, has begun from today in hats, bazars, groceries, sales centers and important places through traditional 'Halkhata' for renewal of business accounts by clearing previous dues.
Improved diets will be served to inmates of the hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, orphanages, 'Shishu Paribars', vagabond centres and orphanages in the district on the occasion of the Bengali New Year.
Traditional 'Baishakhi' Melas, cultural functions, staging dramas, doll- dances, 'Nagor Dola', 'Ha-Du-Du', kite flying competitions, sports competitions for women and discussions will be held at the district and upazila levels to welcome the event.
Similar programmes have been taken in all district and upazila
headquarters of Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha and Nilphamari districts under Rangpur division to welcome 'Pahela Baishakh.'
