Speakers at a discussion here urged all to work for ensuring equal rights of women in the society.
The discussion was held this morning in observance of the International Women's Day at Tareque Smirity auditorium in the town.
Directorate of Women Affairs Office, Mymensingh and district administration jointly organised the discussion chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mymensingh, Mustakim Billah Fariqui.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Addition Police Super Harunur Rashid, Vice Principal of Teachers Training College, Mymensingh Nusrat Jahan, Secretary of Bangladesh Mohila Parisad district unit Monira Begum and others spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said the present government has taken various programmes for the welfare of women. It has introduced mother- hood allowance, allowance for pregnancy, allowance for elderly women and widows.
They said the government also adopted acts for prevention of women
repression. They stressed proper use of the act to ensure women rights and their security in the family as well as in the society.
The discussion was followed by a cultural function.
Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out from the premises of DC office which ended at town hall.
