A Dhaka court on Wednesday asked police to submit on December 27 the report on the probe into allegations of religious incitement against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The report was scheduled to be submitted on Wednesday but the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shamsul Arefin ordered deferral as the investigating officer failed to meet the deadline.
With Wednesday’s order, the submission of the probe report was deferred 11 times.
Khaleda was accused in the case of inciting conflicts among people from different social strata while addressing a programme of the Hindu people at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, in October last year.
In her speech, she slammed the Awami League, saying the party does not believe in any religion. “The Awami League preaches secularism but then it grabs religious institutions. No one, irrespective of his or her religious belief, is safe when the party is in power.”
Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddiqi filed the case against the BNP chief with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman.
