Five Rohingya women and their tout have been arrested. The detectives have arrested them in Pabna who had come to get Bangladesh passports.
They were arrested at the passport office premises on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Pabna Detective Branch police OC Kazi Haniful Islam said tipped-off, they raided the regional passport office in the town's Chhatiani.
The arrestees have been identified as 'Sakhina', 22,' Fareza', 25, 'Jasmine', 23, 'Humayara', 22, and 'Samira', 20. All of them are from Myanmar’s Arakan state.
The agent, arrested with them, of a Chittagong-based travel agency, Ilias Hossain is a resident of Cox’s Bazar's Islambad Union.
He said, “I was working for the travel agency. Each of the women was to pay Tk 20,000 for getting their passports made and were brought to Pabna."
He, however, declined to reveal the name of the travel agency for the sake of the investigation.
But he added that this agency was believed to be involved in sending Rohingyas overseas by arranging fake documents.
