The capital city Dhaka is experiencing dense fog accompanied with early morning chills for the last few days because of a drop in the temperature ahead of winter.
This city fog is customary in winter, Abdur Rahman, an official of Bangladesh Meteorological Department told “It is caused by the drop in the temperature overnight.”
According to the Bangla calendar, two-month-long winter begins with the arrival of Paush, which will begin after five days. Magh, the month after Paush, is the coldest month.
However, a significant drop in temperature has already been noticed across the country. People in the northern districts have experienced as low as 10 degree Celsius.
The first wave of cold will be experienced around December 19 where temperature is expected to drop by about 8 degrees Celcius, Abdur Rahmansaid.
Today, the minimum temperature was recorded in Chuadanga at 10.8 degrees Celcius.
The fog halted ferry services at Mawa-Kawrakandi route for nearly 11 hours where transportation service was compelled to delay.
The queue of vehicles at either side of the river grew until morning waiting since last. Four ferries were stranded midway overnight before they resumed around 9:45am today.
