Tagore, Nazrul our national pride, inspiration

RONGPUR [BSS]:
Speakers at a discussion here last evening said that the great poets Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam are our national pride and glory and their philosophy remains as our source of inspiration.
They put special importance on proper nurturing of the conscience and ideals expressed by the poets through their writings and literary deeds for further enriching our literature and culture in building a non-communal, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.
They were addressing the discussion organized by Rongpur Shahittya-Sangskriti Parishad (RSSP) in observance of the birth anniversaries of Biswa Kabi Rabindranath Tagore and National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at its office here in the city.
Former Head of Bengali Department of Rangpur Carmichael College Professor Muhammad Alim Uddin attended the discussion as the chief guest with President of RSSP Professor Mohammad Shah Alam in the chair.
Former Rangpur Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar Monwara Haque and Lecturer of the Bengali Department of Mahiganj Degree College Dr Nasima Akhter took part in the discussion on the lives and deeds of the two great poets.
Convener of the Rabindra-Nazrul Birth Anniversary Observance Committee Dr Wadud Mostafa delivered welcome speech in the discussion moderated by General Secretary of RSSP Swattik Al Maruf.
Members of RSSP Habibur Rahman, Helen Ara Sidney, Bilkis Sultana Shiri, Sunil Sarker, SM Arif, Dilip Kumar Roy, Dr Abdur Rahim, Monwara Begum and Abdul Mazid Bulu recited poems of the great poets.
Dr Mamtaz Begum, Kajol Chandra Roy, Arzoo Ferdous Beauty, Advocate Zakia Sultana Choiti, Nishat Nigar Kabori, Hasna Hena Rozy, Jafrin, Biplob and Rezina Sakrin recited their self- composed poems dedicated to Tagore and Nazrul.
Besides, Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu, Tripti Dutta, Shusmita Rani, Ratul and Roxy rendered popular songs of Tagore and Nazrul.
The speakers stressed on following ideals and philosophy of Tagore and Nazrul who were the source of inspiration during the War of Liberation in freeing the nation from deprivation, exploitation, injustice and communalism.
They called for increased nurturing of the conscience, ideals, philosophy and literary works including poems, songs and novels of the two great sons of the soil for building a prideful and more enlightened humanity through showing due respect to them.
