The first phase of the Union Parishad election began this morning with amid festive mood at 717 union parishads of thirty-six districts.
The vote cast start at around 8 am to 4pm.
The UP election would be end by June in six phases across the country.
Except Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP), a total 14 political parties including Jatiya Party, Jasad, Bikalpa Dhara, Workers Party, BNF, CPB, Tarikat Federation, Jamiyate Ulamaye Islam, Islami Andolon Bangladesh and NAP participated in the election.
Meanwhile, necessary equipments including ballot papers and ballot boxes have been sent to each and every polling centres yesterday (March 21).
Even the public holiday has been announced in the election areas.
On behalf of the Election Commission (EC), around 1,80,000 member of different law enforcement agencies including Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police, Coast Guard and Ansar have been deployed at the election areas.
At the same time, BGB has been deployed in 680 unions and simultaneously executive magistrate along with the Judicial Magistrates are also on vigil in the field at 101 upazilas under 34 districts.
In first phase, a total 36,456 candidates are contesting in three posts of 717 Union Parishad elections at 101 upazilas of 36 districts.
A total 3,034 candidates are contesting for Chairman, 25,847 for members and 7575 candidates are fighting for reserved posts.
