Field Day on BARI sweet potato in Gaibandha

A field day on production and dissemination of BARI released orange fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) was held at Ratanpur village under Fulchhari upazila today amid much enthusiasm.
A discussion meeting was also held at the village this morning on the occasion with district BRAC representative Amal Kumar Dam in the chair.
CIP Bangladesh in partnership with BRAC arranged the function under Strengthening Uganda's Systems for Treating AIDS Nationally (SUSTAIN) project funded by UKaid in collaboration with department of agriculture extension and BARI.
UNO Masudur Rahman Mollah addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila agriculture officer M. Tahazul Islam and district marketing officer M. Moazzem Hossain were present as the special guests.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by field coordinator (FC) of CIP Bangladesh Enamul Haque, farmer Farida Begum and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
The speakers in their speeches urged the farmers to farm the OFSP on their land in coming seasons to earn economical benefit in a bid to change their socio-economic condition side by side with meeting the nutritional demand particularly Vitamin A.
Around 380 bighas of land owned by a total of 2,500 farmers of Fulchhari and Sadar upazilas had been brought under the OFSP farming during the current season for the first time on trial basis for adaptation in the district.
UNO M. Masudur Rahman Mollah assured all of giving his administrative help and assistance to expand the farming of the variety in farmers' level and create market linkage between the businessmen and the growers to attain the cherished goal of the project.
