The World Consumers' Rights Day-2016 was observed here today with a renewed pledge for creating mass awareness to launch a vigorous campaign to protect the interests of the people. The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection and District Administration jointly organised a seminar at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in observance of the day with the theme of 'Antibiotics off the menu.' Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed attended the seminar as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Md Rahat Anwar in the chair. Deputy Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Khondker Nurul Amin, Deputy Director (Local Government) Sultana Parveen, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rev) Mostain Billah and Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kabir, addressed among others. Officials of different government and non-government departments and organisations, leaders of different businesspersons' organisations, civil society members, journalists and local elite attended the seminar. The speakers called for raising adequate public awareness, strict enforcement of the Consumers' Rights Protection Law to protect the consumers' rights through freeing the human body from any kind of food poisoning and other contamination. They put importance on making the business community people aware about severe consequences of supply and sale of adulterated and poisonous foods and ensuring state control for making the market free from deception to ensure healthy atmosphere.
