Bangladesh Women sealed ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier semi-final berths from Group A after victories over Papua New Guinea Women at Bangkok of Thailand on Tuesday.
Over at Asian Institute of Technology Ground, a solid batting effort and Khadija Tul Kubra’s five-for proved far too much for PNG, as Bangladesh sealed a 41-run win.
Asked to bat, Bangladesh rode on Fargana Hoque’s 30-ball 28, studded with three fours, and late cameos from Nigar Sultana (14 in 18 balls), Ritu Moni (13 not out in 12 balls) and Jahanara Alam (10 not out in 4 balls) to put up 100 for 7 after a bit of a wobble.
Kubra’s magical returns of 5 for 11 from four overs and equally miserly efforts from the rest of its bowlers meant that PNG’s reply never really took off, with Tanya Ruma, the opener, the only one to reach double figures, scoring a 22-ball 12 as the innings ended on 59 in 19.5 overs.
Bangladesh topped the group with three wins from three games, while Scotland ended with four points from three games, PNG was third with two points and Thailand was left winless.
