Bangladesh has withdrawn its bid for the office of a judge at The Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC).
Chairman of the Law Commission ABM Khairul Haque had been nominated for the election to be held in June at a session at the Dutch city.
The post fell vacant after Philippine Judge Miriam Defensor Santiago resigned last year on health grounds. She was elected for a nine-year term in 2012.
Former chief justice Haque told that he pulled out due to family commitments.
“I am the only son of my mother. She is 89 years old and she is ill.
“So it’s difficult for me to give six years to ICC,” he said on Sunday night.
Bangladesh is a member of the independent and permanent court, ICC.
