Tomorrow, the graveyard will suddenly become very festive
They would all come back to exchange greetings
with me, for me
only I won't be there
like every year
the white end of my sari
won't caress the little crosses
my trembling hands won't bestow the marigolds
at the feet of the lovely old ladies
my long hair won't shield the burning candles from winter wind
but all the dear ones will be awake only to bless me
I won't be there
I won't be there
I won't be there
walking alone along the path
curved by rows and columns of crosses and ever-sleeping beds
little and large, new and old, wet and warm, some dry like desert
some soft by teardrops
Do not wake up, O you resting ones
from your dreams, from your peace
I am there
I am there
I am there
after my tired journey
among you in the dark solemn world that we all share
listening to the lullaby my mother is singing
let's not go up disturbing the silence
come, be merry and laugh the song of death
together we shall celebrate the joy of togetherness
and drink the festive mood of our reunion of our lost lives
being thankful for gaining back the old spirit of innocence.
